dive bombing wasp

Last night a wasp or hornet flew in the door. It immediately disappeared, so I hoped it had flown back out.

But then, sitting on the couch watching TV, all of a sudden this creature dive-bombed from above. The dog was freaking out and so was I.

So I went to bed and closed the bedroom door. (Ah, safety, and please don't tell me otherwise.)

Now this morning, I have no idea where the wasp is. I am sitting here with my flyswatter and can of Raid Wasp and Hornet spray.

I should add I am afraid of bees, and have never been stung. I have been doing much better since taking up gardening with the regular bees, but wasps still terrify me. And I could potentially be allergic, but having never been stung, I don't know. I tried leaving the back door open for awhile this morning, hoping it would see daylight and leave.

How long can a wasp live inside a house without a food source? I am on pins and needles waiting for the next ambush.
