Strange behavior? Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm sorry, I was pointed over here and I'm not getting quite what I was looking for through the search. :)

I live on the edge of town, in an older subdivision. We've gotten the usual bumblebees, and in the fall the sedum gets visited pretty nicely - but that's about it. Honeybees don't really visit here at all.

I was kind of disturbed the other day, then, seeing somewhere between five or a dozen (or so) bees bonking themselves off our garage door.
They weren't going for gaps, or under the eaves, just kind of looping around the door, and they'd tend to hit it and tumble a bit before recovering.
It was really weird, and I've never seen anything like it before, and I'm at a loss. It hasn't occurred since.
Does anyone here have a clue what just happened?? 0_o

White. Plain ol' white.

I assume you mean they were honeybees, even though you stated you don't usually see any honeybees at your location. The behavior you describe of so few bees is peculiar and I think you'll find most of us as clueless as yourself.

Maybe you have a cell phone transmission tower close by?
(sorry....insider beekeeper CDC joke)

My best guess has to do with scout bees from a nearby swarm trying to locate a new, permanent nesting site. But if you haven't seen them since, I would say your home's location lost out in the swarm's voting process (lucky you!). You'll probably never know exactly what was going on.
