Checked my hives today and things look good. Loads of bees and brood in all stages. And some capped. Gave them food and hope now the aspens and pussywillows bloom soon.

RE: Spring Check

I don`t do a mite count. Treat in the spring and fall.I don`t know what you mean by dedicate.Going by Spruce Grove today so might pick up some Protein for them as there is no sign of pollen anywhere.

RE: Spring Check

Ups..sorry, I meant medicate.
That seems to be the common thing to do with mites...I usually count, sometimes I don't treat in spring.
Still have a little home made pollen substitute, so I should be fine.

RE: Spring Check

Just finished inspecting my 7 hives, all is looking good except for one, not too many bees left, perhaps
1/5 of a super. I really have more hive's then I wanted, 3 to 4 is ideal for a hobby, especially when extracting honey all by hand, so I will sell some this spring.

This is one of my stronger hive, it produced about 300 lb of honey last year, picture from today.
April 10 / 09

This from last year, 2 supers were already extracted.

That's looking real good. I have only 2 hives as that's all I can manage. Also with a hand extractor plus I'm in my 70's.Is the hive that's not doing so well the one that had all the dead bees out in front earlier.Having a thunder storm right now. That shud get things going. Have a Happy Easter every one. ingrid

Oh wow...in the 70's you're doing very well!

>>Is the hive that's not doing so well the one that had all the dead bees out in front earlier<<

No, this hive is looking good, I had a thread going on this in January on Beesource, [below]
We had the thunder storm here too last night, the first of this season.
Happy Easter!
