Queens...

Well it’s a long story but I’ll shorten it up…
I installed 2 packages of bees yesterday and they have these new plastic queen cages in them…

Well these new plastic cages have no way of hanging on the frame; I’m starting out with new foundation so they don’t even stay at the top of the frames they fall right in…

I called up to where I bought them today [lapps] to get some advice and I was told to pop the top off and let the queen out, right, it’s allot easier said than done the plastic top is clipped or attached some how, I could barely pry the top off, needless to say I pretty sure I lost at least one of the queens…

How long should I wait to check to see if I did indeed loose the queen?

If I did loose the queen how long before the workers would start laying eggs of there own?

Where is a good place to buy new queens?

Thanks, Scott

You should see eggs in anywhere from 1 to 7 day's.
If you don't see any, I would look for the queen, it should be fairly easy because you don't have allot of bees. If she is missing you could combine or order a new queen.
What I did when releasing queen in new foundation, just hold the queen cage between two frames by pushing together, leave one frame out and replace after 3 day's when queen is out.

When I use the plastic cage (JZBZ) I push a tooth pick through the cage cross way(careful not to hit the queen) then I hang it from the top of the frames.

Just another openion and every body has one!
