Has anyone heard that there is fungus in the honey?

I read it somewhere but can't remember where, but I do remember reading that they said that in some cases with the CCD where there are NO dead bees left, nothing at all and the honey hasn't been touched (even by predators), they claim that there is an almost invisible fungus present in the honey. Has anyone heard about this? This is the only article I could find, and it doesn't say much about the fungus, only mentions it as a possibility.

I wouldn't worry about it. Until or unless the source of your information can be referenced or otherwise documented so the informational source can be evaluated, I tend to put no real credence in "hearsay" type information. The article you give doesn't say anything about any fungus existing in honey.

Mersiepoo:
I am not a beekeeper but I was looking at the gardening forums and happened to see the beekeeping forum and saw the posts about CCD. If you want more info, I heard about this last week on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory. He had investigative reporter Linda Moulton Howe on the program talking about this problem. You probably can't listen to past shows unless you subscribe though, sorry. Anyway Linda Moulton Howe's site www.earthfiles.com has the transcripts from her interviews. It's under "environment" on the left sidebar.

The latest up-to-date info re CCD is on the web site for the CCD Working Group at Penn State. No one yet knows answers.

The fungus story is one hypothesis put out by Penn State who are deep into CCD research. And it's quite plausible and credible. First identified by Burnside around 1950, this fungal infection causes bees to fly out of the hive to die.

But it's an hypothesis only at this point, as research continues.
