No feeding of newly installed Nucs?

I got my first bees last Friday, two nucs, with 4 frames each. Installed them Saturady morning with -almost- no problem. The guy I bought the nucs from told me NOT to feed the bees. He said something like honeybound....whatever that means. he is a good beekeeper, most other beekeepers in the area hold him in high regards. That's why I didn't ask why not, I didn't want to make him think I second guess his advice... :-)

What's your opinion on extra feeding right now? The bees were busy the last three days, lots of activity on both hives. When do you think can I open the hives? Also, I put a total of ten frames in each hive, but then realized that I had never thought about how far to space them apart. I ended up spacing them evenly...was that ok? Sorry for all the questions, guess I need to find a patient beekeeper around here.

Thanks folks.
