Yes, you can get comb honey from your hives.

There is a fine book about just that, "The Comb Honey Book" by Richard Taylor. Your bee supplier might carry it, I know Dadant and Kelley do. You can also find used copies at abebooks.com, and maybe Amazon.

There is a special wax foundation for the best comb honey, very thin, of course without wires. You can use it in supers or Ross Rounds or Killian boxes, and it makes a big difference. The comb honey melts in your mouth, not too much left to chew (like with the thicker foundations).

There is a technique which some beekeepers use called "Shook Swarming" (explained in detail in Taylor's book, which is used at the start of the nectar flow in the spring to get a lot of comb honey. Learn about it. It's not the sort of technique a commercial beekeeper would use, too labor intensive, but it does work, and it's a fascinating thing to do, to force a swarm onto a bedsheet laid on the ground that leads like a highway into a new fresh hive where the queen is waiting.... there is no brood in such a new hive, so the field force is suddenly much greater than usual and a shook swarmed hive can put up a lot of comb honey very fast, which you then want to harvest as soon as it is capped, white and clean - premium comb honey.

If you haven't already, you should try to take advantage of some of the resources that are local to you. A quick search on Google shows that there are active links to two groups that might be near you;

The Southwestern Michigan Beekeepers Association, and
The southeastern Michigan Beekeepers Association.

Both indicate that they have educational programs about beekeeping, and being a part of a local group like that can provide association with many folks who have a great many years of experience in beekeeping...real hands-on experience that sometimes you can't find in a book.
