 o
fermented smell when adding 2nd brood chamber

I detected a bit of fermentation in the nectar that was present in the frames of the 2nd brood chamber I added over the weekend to one hive. How bad is fermented honey to a bee? Will he/she get drunk and have nosema?

RE: fermented smell when adding 2nd brood chamber

This time of year it won't hurt anything and the bees will clean it up. It can be a problem in winter though because the bees can't make regular cleansing flights. (You could always donate any drunks to science :)

Here is a link that might be useful: Study on alcohol effects on bees.
