Where can I buy honey bees in my area?

Posted by kaalkee Pa (My Page) on

I was wondering if anyone could help me out? My husband wants to raise honey bees and we need to know if there are any farms in our area (North Eastern Pa near NY border in the area of Waverly, Elmira, Binghamton)where we can go to pick up the bees instead of having them shipped.
Thank you

Do a google search for beekeepers/bee clubs in your area. If you can find a local club, there is probably someone in the club who has them available for pickup. A club is also valuable in that they will have members who will be happy to mentor your beginning efforts. You will have a lot of questions. You might start with pastatebeekeepers.org.

You are a little late to get package bees this year, but
http://www.draperbee.com/
is where you can get bee equipment and packages in the spring.
Get your equipment and put your name on craigs list or local emrgency services for swarm calls.

For the right price, you could probably purchase an established hive but it will need to come from at least 5 miles away....so the bees don't simply fly back to their original location.

Also, check the website for Brushy Mountain. They are a supplier of all things for bees and are opening a new location in your state.

Lastly, it is very normal to receive your first packet(s) in the mail.

And...maybe contact these folks to find out what is on your side of the state?

Here is a link that might be useful: Penn State Beekeeping Class
