What do I need to move a current hive.

Ok, here's the deal.

My neighboor, a relative of mine (grandfathers brother), who has a few beehives. I have another relative(grandmothers nephew) who lives about 20-30 miles away. He has started current farming. I was wondering what I would need to move a hive or 2 to his farm to pollinate his plants.

I've been tought how to take care of the bees, and have all the standard equipment, but I have never moved a colony before (nor has my neighboor).

How do I do it, and what do I need?

I probably can't just smoke 'em good, board up all the holes, load the hive in a pickup bed and just move it down the highway at 55...

You can screen the entrance, strap the hive together securely, and load them on a pickup. And yes, you can drive down the highway at 55 or 75. The best time to do this is very early in the morning or at sunset. This means most of the bees will be in the hive and the heat won't be as bad.

Move them at night. They are all home in bed!!!
