Bees in compost bin

I discovered (luckily before I was agressively digging) a bee nest(?) in my compost bin. It is a small plastic bin with a door in the bottom that can be slid off and compost "harvested" from the bottom. I can't really see too well in there, but it looks like LOTS of bees have taken up residence. Any advice on how to get them out? I don't necessarily want to kill them if there is a way to make it unihabitable short of extermination. I want my compost!

I live in Baltimore, MD and don't know what kind of bees these are - small, fuzzy round bodies with yellow and black stripes - cute!
