Bees in our birdbath

I noticed about 2 weeks ago that we had a lot of bees hanging in and around our birdbath. The birdbath is located directly in the middle of a garden with Munstead Lavender and Balloon flowers. I know they like the lavender flowers and I also saw them in my cucumber blooms. Please tell me that this is a good sign. We have had this garden for almost 4 years but the birdbath was a new addition late last summer. Also, are there easy ways to tell what type of bee we are looking at? Thank you!!!!

Yes, it's a good sign. The bees are using the bird bath as a source of water, so you are providing a service to them. If you are having a problem with them drowning, you can float a small perforated plaitic lid or almost anything that would provide footing or give them a place to light. If you google "bee identification" you'll find a few good sights.
