Yellow Jacket Question

I have a large yellow jacket nest high up in the peak of my house (approximately 30 feet up), located above garage doors and bedroom windows. So far, I haven't had any issues, but I'm a little concerned whether they could pose a problem in the future. My goal here would be to avoid killing them, if at all possible. I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge or experience with whether the wasps become more aggressive as the colony growns? So far they appear oblivious to any activity near the garage doors and have shown no aggression when I water my flower boxes (through the screen of course). Is there typically a "safe" distance you can remain from a hive? Can a hive be "relocated" by a professionl? Sorry for all the "newbie" questions, but I really love these guys in my yard (as they're great for my flower beds) but I also don't want to put my family or dogs at risk. Any assistance you can provide will be very much appreciated. Thank you!
