Butterfly House - overtaken by bees

| Hi. I have a friend who needs help. She has a Butterfly house that bumblebees (big ones) have moved into and seem to be taking over. The two narrow slots in front have what looks like some kind of nesting material hanging out of them. I don't have a picture, but when we look inside the house there are at least 10 bumblebees. If the butterfly house were not quite so close to her back door, it wouldn't be such a concern.
We don't want to harm the bees. How do we politely tell these bees to buzz off??
Thanks! |

| I'd thought bumblebees nested in the ground...perhaps these are carpenter bees? While those are large and loud, I don't think they would be a sting hazard...when I am around them they seem far more interested in jousting with one another or in gnawing wood than me. If having them move along is really important, maybe someone on list will have ideas about using a smoker to encourage them to leave, and then have someone move the butterfly house to another location.
