When the whole front of the box is covered in bees when you go to get the hive(last night), and they imediately get agressive, how do you move them?
Befor just went up, picked the hive up and carried it to the truck. do I smoke them or what? |

| Yes, smoking them will drive them in the hive. Be careful about overheating though, if you completely close up that many bees in the hive for too long it can be a problem. Screening the entrance to close it or a screened bottom board can help. If you are just moving them a short distance it shouldn't be a problem. -Tim |

Welcome to Autumn... you say it's still Summer where you live? Not for the bees... They get incredibly "protective" of their Winter food stores this time of year. Probably not the best time of the year to be moving them (hives are defensive & heavy with honey needed to survive the coming Winter). But if you have to move them, yes smoke them or lightly spray them with a misting sugar water spray bottle - that will keep them from flying and they'll get busy licking sugar water off each other. Don't over spray or you'll drown them! As mentioned, close the hive up with window screen closures so that some air can still get in. |
