Want to pursue beekeeping, no property

| Hi!
I live in Lafayette IN and I'm interested in getting involved somehow in beekeeping. I'm pursuing a grad degree don't have any property (I rent). I want to learn a thing or two about beekeeping even though I don't have property, plus I'd like to help out the bee population, which I know is suffering.
I've took a beekeeping workshop a few years ago and know basic info about bees and beekeeping, but would like to work with an experts for awhile. Does anyone know of any ways to get involved with bees if you aren't able to keep them on your own property?

Maiko, I have a some of my hives on other people's properties that are in great locations. In exchange, I give them some honey. First of all, seek out a local club. There is an organization called the northwest Indiana Beekeepers Association. nwibka.com They may be able to hook you up with a club in your area. If you see hives in your area, approach the land owner and find out who owns them. Most beekeepers will be glad to give you some help getting started if you're serious. One way to find that out is to volunteer to help out a local beek. There's nothing like hands on experience, to see if it's for you. Check out the library for beekeeping books and read them. I usually recommend two books by Richard Bonney "Beekeeping, A Practical Guide" and "Hive Management" There are many other good ones out there. Find a mentor.good luck! |
