Please identify this

This picture was taken in late June in central Illinois in my backyard. The leaf is of Gaillardia Arizona Sun.

I have looked all over the place. Some things make me think bee; while others make me think wasp. I am not convinced that it is either one!

I love the picture; but when people ask me what it is, I cannot answer. Help!

    Syrphid fly, aka flower fly. Not a bee. Has only one pair of wings. Larvae of many kinds eat aphids.

    Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I have lots of aphids for them to eat.
