how to post a message

I've noticed on this and some other threads that people sometimes have a question and post it as a reply to a previous post. An example is the getting rid of bees post. It was started in 2003 and is still being posted to. I may be wrong, (and will gladly accept that if it's the general opinion) but I think people may sometimes get more response by posting a question as a new post. It is good to have the older posts to reference. You can search them to see if you question has already been answered, but by tagging it onto a post that is 3 or 4 years old, it may not get much notice. This is just a thought. I'd like to hear other people's opinions too.
