Bumbles bumbling..new to the garden

I know next to nothing about bees, but I have some cute little bumbles nectaring on my plants I use to attract butterflies. I'dlike to keep these guys around. Are they dangerous? I have small children. ALso, can you list some suggested perennials they like?

Thanks for your advice,
SHawna

I can tell you that I have hundreds on my caryopteris shrub. They also like the heliotrope.
