bee hives and hurricanes

All the hoopla about Earl ("It's All About Earl") has me thinking about my beehives and what to do in very high winds and driving rains.

Do you leave the telescoping cover propped open?

Do you put some weight on top of the hive to keep it from getting toppled? Or would the hive be the least of our worries if a wind that high?

Just out of curiosity- be it Earl or bear- what do bees do when their hive is knocked over? Will they come back to it when it is re-assembled? What does the beekeeper do?

Funny, I don't even have a gallon of water or extra batteries on hand, but I sure care about my bees!

Thanks

Marie
