Contain bees in hive for a day???

I have a beehive that setup shop in a 15 gallon overturned plant container. They have been there for about a year and they do not bother me at all, I have lots of fruiting plants so I like them in my yard. The problem is there are a few trees around the hive that need to be heavily trimmed. Would it be safe to block their entrance hole ( there are only two small openings so this would not be hard to do) for a few hours so I can safely trim the tree? I am confident I can safely block the holes and contain them, which I would do in the middle of the night to make sure most of the bees are inside. I just want to make sure this is okay for the hive and won't cause any problems for the bees....

Sure, you can use window screen, staple in place, ..bees need to have fresh air.

I have 2 hives in my yard that I work around all the time. As long as you don't kick their house, they will leave you alone. We just get worried because they carry their switchblade knives with them.
