Antiobiotics for bees?

BEJAY10

I recently treated on of my young chicks - purchased at 4 weeks from a feed/supply store. It had contracted illness from E-coli, and I treated it with terramycin. (common to young chicks).

It is well now, but the packet of terramcin advised treating bee hives with it - as a prophylactic against American foulbrood. It recommends feeding 3 administrations in sugar syrup or 3 dustings at 4 to 5 day intervals. It says it should be fed in fall or early spring before main honey flow.

My bees are now about 6 months in the hive - (captured from a backyard tree), and have filled 2 brood boxes. One small super on top has not been colonized. They seem to be doing well.

What advice do you have for using the antibiotics and any preparations I might give before next spring. I live in So. Cal., so my bees have some forage all winter, but of course not as it will be in the spring. They seem healthy, although building next door has eliminated a lot of the ice plant that they were foraging from.
