Snow on the hive

Posted by linjoh z4 WI (My Page) on

Hi,

I'm new to beekeeping this year. We had our first snow last night. There's snow on the lip of my hive covering the entrance. Do I need to remove this snow? I don't have any other holes in the hive and am worried the bees won't have enough air since they seal all the cracks.
Thanks,
Linda

Linda, You can remove it for your own peace of mind but it's not at all necessary. There will still be plenty of air even when they are buried in a foot of snow. Tony

Thanks so much. I'll leave it since it's snowing again today and this is only December!
