Why would someone steal a bee hive?

I had a bee hive in the best place, over my vegetable and herb garden. The bees have came back for the second year this year and we have been getting along great. I don't know anything about bees, other than they are more than welcome in my gardens but now their home is gone. Someone came on our property and out of their way to take the hive. I'm a little upset and wondering why someone would do this? Are they valuable?

Some people will take anything that they can get their thieving hands on.
Used hives are not valuable, at least not to a knowledgeable beekeeper. If a hive is infested with American Foul Brood, the only cure is to burn the hive and everything associated with it. Your hive wasn't, but anyone buying the hive from the thieves wouldn't be able to tell if it was infected or not.
I hope the bees stung the bee-jeezus out of the thieves!

Well with any luck he is allergic to bee stings and they all get him at once.
