Do you know of any Maple for zone 3 what is good for honey bees?
I have amur maple and I'm not sure yet if it will attract honey bees, the tree or shrub is still young.
Have also Linden but looking for something else. How about black cherry or amur cherry?
Just want to spoil my honey bees!

I know you said you believe you have enough Linden/Basswood/Lime trees but is there such a thing as having too many of these? I've seen the bees absolutely go wild over the blossoms when they're producing nectar. Not to mention the tree is well suited for cooler zones and in the end, produces a very tasty honey.

Thanks txbee! Hardy linden, little leaf, have about 10 of them, still small and not flowering yet, have grown them from seeds. Maples it seems are manly good for pollen source and only male plants have it. I need to do a little bit more research. Konrad |

What about red or white clover? I would love to get hives some day, and I make sure to let the clover spread. I also let the dandelions spread too, they are so pretty mixed with the purple violets!

Thank you all! >>What about red or white clover?<< Most of the nectar around here is from this,... also dandelions in Spring and other wild flowers. Was looking for some trees I could still plant for them. >>surwood is a good bee tree.<< Too bad, not hardy for zone 3, this one is good zone 5 to 9. Konrad

Ours LOVE the apple blossoms on our trees (our land used to be an old apple orchard), you can see them buzzing around them in the spring, plus they usually flower pretty early so they get some good food as well. Plus you get pretty flowers and a lovely scent when the tree is in full bloom in spring. Cherries are good too, ditto peaches. You could even go whole hog and plant a climbing trumpet vine for the bees/hummingbirds if you want. As for herbs, Agastache is a great bee plant, deer don't eat it and the flowers are edible. Good luck pampering your bee buddies!
