Questions on beekeeping

| Hi everyone,
I'm considering beekeeping but I would like to find out a few things:
1: Where would I obtain bees and a hive?
2: How much would they be?
3: What flowers do they like that I could plant nearby?
4: How do you actually GET honey?
5: Where would I get a smoker and beekeeper's suit?
I should probably note that I live in australia.
Thanks for any information,

| Try starting out by looking at Dadant & Son's website. Or by Googling "Beekeeping". This should give you plenty to ponder and to get you started. |

Old Hive cleaning

I have an old Super and it has been vacant for some years. I dont know what caused the abandonment or erradication. I'd like to bring it into production again, however there is evidence of long gone wax moth and possibly some fermenting honey larva of many months mabey years mabey some other undesirables. How could I safely sanitize the boxes and frames for a future colony? |

| remove the frames and wax, and burn them and bury them. Old wax is not what you want. scrape down the unpainted surfaces of the box to remove all propolis and wax. You can toast the unpainted surfaces with a torch to kill any AFB spores. However, your state may have regulations about used equipment requiring an inspection. |
