Will It Come Back?

| I purchased a beautiful begonia last summer that was full of small orangy red flowers and was sold as a hanging plant. When we were expecting a freeze (a few weeks ago), I put it along with some tropical potted plants in a shed without a heater. It got colder than expected, and the begonia was one of the casualties. Its branches melted and died. When I went to see if I could salvage anything, I noticed it had a big tuber underneath that I brought in and planted in another pot. So far, nothing is happening. How do I tell if it will make it? How long until it puts out shoots? Does it need to be in a window? Should I give up on it yet?

| You probably have either boliviensis or 'Bonfire' (which is an improved version of boliviensis). This was mass-produced last year and sold in several stores. I have a feeling it will be sold again in mass this year along with its cousin 'Bellfire' which has a different color bloom. Don't give up on it. I think it is supposed to go dormant and will return when it is ready. As long as the tuber is firm, then you are ahead of the game. |

| Thanks. It is quite firm, so hopefully my patience will be rewarded |

| It helps if you put heat under it. It will sprout quicker. Deanna |
