Can I take cuttings of this?

| I have a plant that I brought in for the winter. Out by my mailbox I planted several of the bronze colored begonias with some marigolds. I want to propagate some cuttings, but I tried once and they got mushy. These are not the fancy tubers but just the dark bronze ones. What did I do wrong? Thanks - Barb |

| begonia semperflorens can be successfully propagated by taking well-branching stem cuttings (for a fuller, nicer looking plant). i don't grow many myself, but i would suspect that your mix was either too wet or too heavy...or both. cuttings will turn to mush under those conditions. i would use some well-draining mix...perhaps mix in perlite and sand if you have to, and grow in humid (not wet) conditions. bottom heat helps a lot, but isn't necessary.
