Hump down. The bowl goes up and barely cover it until the eyes are up and growing.

hehe- THANKS! that would explain why my bowl-planted-down-in-about-2"-of-soil bulbs last year either rotted, or the one that was too determined to not die started heading for China, then righted himself, but never broke the surface.
DOH!

I promise to do it right this year ;)

Sometimes it is very difficult to tell which side is up, at times the tops of the tubers are not dished. When this happens I plant them on edge in a pot until the sprouts show, and then plant them in there permanent location right side up.

What has taught me was to wait too long, then I see the sprouts!. I hve learned the hard way it is best to wait for sprouts before planting, less likely to rot
