Begonia at walmart?

Posted by oakleif z6 AR (My Page) on

I'm new to growing houseplants and i saw some beautiful begonias at walmarts. They don't look like any begonias i've seen before. They have many large flowers in various colors including yellow. The few leaves are typical begonia leaves.
Does anyone know what kind they are and are they hard to grow?
TIA

RE: Begonia at walmart?

More than likely the begonias you are seeing are Reiger begonias (aka Hiemalis or Elatior begonia). I think most people treat them as annuals although if you give them proper care, they can be perennial and propagated. Search for them online.
