Planting bulbs (tubers) or buying potted plants

Hello,

I am considering planting tuberous begonias (for the shady parts of my backyard). I have never dealt with begonias before and I am wondering if I should start with bulbs or with potted plants. Are begonias difficult to grow from bulbs? When should they be planted? Where could one pruchase potted begonias in San Diego county? Any input/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Begonias are fairly easy to grow from bulbs (tubers). Just make sure they sprout before planting. you can ensure this by keeping them warm for a few days/weeks. In case of lack of eyes, soak the tubers in warm water for a few minutes.

Plant them at any time (it takes about 10-12 weeks to flower from planting)
