over-wintered betonia tubers have ateoliated stems

Hi all,

This is my first begonia forum posting. I was late getting my overwintered tubers into pots this year. And when I pulled them out of the peat moss, they had long white scrawny stems. Should I leave them, pinch them back? Are they ruined?

Luckily I went to the greenhouse and have some beautiful backups in place!
