any advantage to a flat tuber?

Was looking at some tubers today at a store. Most were bowl/cup shaped. There was one I found however, that was quite flat [and no it hadn't been stepped on ; ) ]. I was wondering what if any benefit the flatter shape might offer. Does seem like dividing it would be easier. Any other thoughts?

Flat tubers seem to take longer to sprout. Watch out, they all catch up. Another thing about flat ones is you really don't have to worry that water will pool in the middle of the tuber.

Flat tubers may have been restricted in the pot/ground where they were grown. Since it is natural for the begonias to be cup shaped, I would not favor a flat tuber.
