Are Begonia dregei seedlings spotted? If so, why?

Last year I received a B. dregei 'Richardsiana' in a trade. It soon produced seeds. I finally planted a fraction of the seeds this year, and I was surprised how easy they were to grow from seed. I suddenly have more seedlings than I know what to do with.

However the seedlings have very obvious spots on the leaves, while the parent doesn't. At first I thought maybe I have a hybrid, but a quick search suggests that there are plenty of photos of B. dregei seedlings with spotted leaves.

So am I correct in assuming that B. dregei loses its juvenile spots as it matures? Is there thought to be a reason for young plants having spotted leaves?

In a strange way it reminds me of deer, where fawns lose their spots.
