Tuberous Begonia Cuttings

I know this topic has been discussed here before but as I am not having much luck this year rooting cuttings I thought I would ask again.

I seem to have had only about a 30% success rate with basal cuttings placed in a propagator, most seem to rot below soil level after a couple of weeks. I have used the various mediums I saw recommended on Begonia sites ie coir compost, seedling compost with lots of perlite added.

Is there a better way of rooting cuttings than above I had some success last year rooting a few in small jars of water and I was thinking of trying that again.
