Begonia Rex - Lack of Moisture?

Posted by andyzoob (My Page) on

Hello everyone,

just as a little background, i purchased this rex begoina as my first houseplant a little over a month ago. and it has been thriving thusfar, without fertilizer.

Now this leads me to a question. i have notices the edges of some leaves, (few), and one leaf in specific, that had this drying / browning. it has not spread rapidly and the leaf seems fine otherwise, but i would appreciate any input
The location i have, is a diffused (frosted) West facing window. that is in my bathroom. so i believe the plant gets a daily dose from my showers.

and last,
i picked up a 10-15-10 liquid concentrate "Schultz" brand
is this a good mix for my rex?
and should i fert small ammount daily, or go with
higher concentration , every 2 weeks say?

thanks in advance
Andrew

RE: Begonia Rex - Lack of Moisture?

There's a saying I've heard for years when it comes to fertilizing most any houseplants--'weekly, weakly'. Or maybe it's weakly, weekly? Someone said would you like to have a feast every few weeks, or a reasonable meal daily? I think once a day is too often for watering tho'--best to water thorougly and let them dry a bit before watering again, and depending on the soil moisture rather than the calendar as to when that is. You are doing very well with a plant that is not the easiest begonia you could have chosen to start with.

Thanks for the info,
sorry, i did type "everyday", when i meant to say water thoroughly then dry. as that is the technique i've been using.

also thanks for the compliment on doing very well with this plant.
Andrew
