Tuberous Begonia died - can I somehow salvage the tuber?

Hi all! I'm fairly new to begonia care and, like a newbie, didn't recognize spider mite damage until it was too late. While I fretted over soil moisture, fungus or overexposure to sun, the spider mites munched happily on my ignorance. The final leaf and stem fell off of one of my Illuminations Rose tuberous begonia plants yesterday. I did manage to catch it in time on the plant's 3 siblings, but was hoping there was some good that could come out of the death of the one. Is there any way I can coax it back from the tuber? Or can I save the tuber for next season somehow? I live in zone 7 and am raising these begonias in 8 to 10 inch containers. I know you can save the tubers at the end of the season, but wasn't sure if that could be done at any time or if I should just give up on this one completely and trash it?

Thanks for any advice you can give! :)
