Help with ID, please (pics)

I have no experience with begonias whatsoever, so obviously, I need some help.

I grabbed a leaf off the floor from some begonias that were being ripped up by a landscaping crew last fall. I have a lot of experience propagating things, so thought I'd give it a try (nothing to lose, right?) and it worked.

Now, I have no idea what it is even though I've been searching everything I can get my hands on for 2 months trying to ID it.

The plants it came from were about one and a half to two foot tall and quite bushy. The blooms looked like pink and yellow Non-Stop, but the leaves don't look the same. I don't even know if it's a tuberous type or what to do to care for it this winter. It's looking so healthy, I'd hate to lose it now.

Any ideas what I might have?

I don't think that is a begonia. It looks more like a geranium or aconitum.

Parsley? Columbine? j/k... :)

It's awefully cute! If you got it this far, I'm sure you can keep it going!

Thanks for looking and giving a guess.

Hmmm...interesting!

I know the leaf came from a begonia and I don't have any geraniums or aconitum anywhere on my property.
Come to think of it, I haven't seen either of those for miles and miles around me. I doubt there were ungermed seeds in the bagged potting soil or fell in since it was covered with plastic.

lol, I'm pretty sure it's neither parsley or columbine. :)

What would grow from a begonia leaf that isn't a begonia?

Well, shoot! Now I'm definitely going to have to make sure it lives...just to find out what it is!

I thought columbine too but then ruled it out. The other one I thought of was some kind of thalictrum (rue anemone).

If this is a begonia I'd love to see it in bloom. Keep us posted.

I'm afraid it doesn't look like a begonia to me, either. Maybe Ranunculus? Their flowers can look like some double hybrid begonias... maybe a seed got in there right by the leaf somehow so it looked like it was growing from it.

dirtmonkey, you were close!

It's either Ranunculus sardosus (exactly what the leaves look like, but not the flower) or Ranunculus scelaratus (exactly what the flowers look like but not the leaves).

A freaking buttercup of some kind. Urk...I feel like a total idiot! But, the mystery is solved. lol.
