small cluster of leaves on corm

One begonia corm that I purchased and planted this summer did absolutely nothing--I thought it was dug up by a squirrel or rotted in the rainy weather. Recently it developed several tiny clusters of leaves. Will these result in stems next year (after wintering in the cellar)? The growth is so new and young, I wonder if I need to bring it in (in a pot) to continue its growth. I would prefer not to have to treat it as a houseplant over the winter. Advice?
