B. bipinnatifida and B. warburgii

In doing a search for care for B. Bipinnatifida, I came across a post or two on this forum about it and B. Warburgii.

Then, I went to various nurseries to look for care and noted that one lists Bipi and Warburgii as the same. At Randy and Sherm's Plant Collection they call one begonia by both names.

I have two I bought as Bipi. One is bronzy with a red main stem. The second is more green than bronze and the main stem isn't as dark.

So, because mine look different, I went to the web and did a photo search.

I can see why the two could be mistaken for each other. But, looking at photos on the web site below, they *are* definitely different. I think I may have one of each.

What do you think?

They are two different species, although they look very similar. Both are from New Guinea, as are B. brevirimosa and B. exotica, which also look almost identical.

Hello, Elizabeth:
Am I right in thinking I might have both species?

I was rather surprised to see a nursery list the two together since beyond shape they don't appear to be the same.

I've learned a lot on this forum and I thank you all. I also enjoy the AV and Gesnariad forums!

I'm still trying to figure out what Begonia I have pictured on our photo webpage. Kartuz(?) nursery is where I thought I found an ID on it.

Hi, Randy:
Kartuz uses bipinnatifida and warburgii interchangeably; that's the main reason I asked the original question. The Kartuz listing caused me no end of confusion, I can tell you.

Love your site; I go there often just to gaze :-)
