Your description sounds exactly like 'Orange Rubra', and since it's not an uncommon variety, that's undoubtedly what you have.

Thanks! I've been surfing begonia sites, so I know that 'Orange Rubra' has similar descendants -- but especially since I got this from a large wholesaler-type nursery rather than a specialist-type nursery, you're probably right that I should go with the more common possibility. ;-)

In any case, I'm very happy with it. I hope it continues to do well through the winter!

And btw -- you people are VERY evil. I had never thought to look for begonias on ebay, until reading through this forum yesterday. Arg, I think I'm in trouble now.... LOL

I'm quite fond of the orange-flowering canes and have several varieties (well, maybe "had" is a better word, since I don't even know yet what all I lost in the two hurricanes). So far, though, 'Orange Rubra' is my favorite of all of them, in spite of its horizontal growth habit.

Why do you consider the horizontal habit to be a negative factor? It's a big plus, to me. Looks lovely in a hanging basket. :-)
