I was given a Begonia a couple of months back, and have searched for it on line, with no luck. I'm sure it is a common variety. I was wondering if any one could list some types to search for, by a description.
It has 3 - 4 in. round semi-gloss olive leaves on top, maroon under the leaves, Lime green stems with red hairs.
It was a very full plant when I got it, but I don't think it likes me much. It has lost most of it's larger leaves, and even a couple of stalks. I have been giving it some extra attention lately and seems to be responding well. There is a lot of new leaf growth starting. I don't want to kill it cause I can tell it has been around for a while. Thanks for any help with saving this guy.
It sounds like one of the (many) rhizomatous types, but from that description I can't place it. That's not saying much, actually, 'cause there are hundreds, maybe thousands, of rhizomatous begonias. If that's what it is, it needs good light but little or no direct sun, good light soil mix that drains well, lightly moist and allowed to dry out some between watering, especially in winter. A good place to look for pictures to try to identify it is the website of the American Begonia Society.
