B Grandis Seed?

I let the plants outside die and dry out naturally. The seed pods are just dangling out in the freezing cold. Are these seeds viable and worth collecting? If so when? Or should I just go ahead and clean all the old plant material?
The dead plants are rather a good winter interest plant above the snow now. |

Every year I get plenty of babies from this plant. They are noticable a little later, like end of May compared to other things I grow. I am not sure if they are from the seeds or the bubils if that is the correct term, that fall off the plant in the fall. Could be both. In any case, they flower the same year. I once tried growing the seed under lights. The seed was a few years old and still germinated. They were so tiny though, they didnt' make it. I would try sprinkling the very small seed in a spot where you want them to grow and let it be. You have nothing to lose at this point. You should have plenty to try this way and some in pots if you like and still more to save or trade. |
