Do begonia roots have to be at a certain temp, 2 gro well?

Hi.

I am also new to begonia..

I have had one growing in my kitchen facing an east window for about 3 weeks now. I noticed the leaves kept falling down, like a wilt..I also noticed that that area can be pretty cool in the am from all night..The root looks healthy though..

So, I took it from that spot, placed it on a heat matt, and this thing seems to be very happy in just a couple of days..

Now, is it coincendence that it happens to be doing better, or do you think it is the fact the soil has been heated some what? Do they have to be in warm condition to perform well? Most of my home stays pretty cool all winter, especially near windows..

Thankyou so much!

Mike

Warmer soil ALWAYS helps tropical plants. However, don't overdo it. It is as important for soil to dry out, which the heat is probably helping plants to do. Greg
