 o
moist area, 2 inches

Hope someone sees this post. I am ignorant about bogs, although I have read some about them, and have visited some at crosby arboretum.
I have an oblong or oval area in my back yard (3/4 acre lot) that is about 6 ft x 15 ft, and stays very wet most of the winter. It is about 2 inches deep. During the summer, we have had drought and there is no standing water there.
Can I do a bog type garden there, or do bogs need to be deeper and have running water? Otherwise I will try to plant moisture loving or moisture tolerant plants that take mostly sun.
Thanks.

Sounds like what you need is to set up a prairie type
garden on the spot. These can take some flooding that give way to drought during the summer months.

got any local botanic gardens in your area. check them out for ideas too.

I have an area just like that, except the water doesn't stand more than a few hours. Here's what does well for me there. Brugmansia (angel trumpet), Hibiscus (Texas Star and tropicals), some cannas (President and Endeavor have particularly done well--some others didn't like Stuttgart, Bengal Tiger, Futurity series), Chinese Windmill Palm, Louisiana Iris, Japanese Iris, Siberian Iris, Crocosmia, Ginger, Elephant Ears, Umbrella Palm. I know the iris, EE's and umbrella palm would do well. The others I'm not sure about in standing water.
