asian lilies in bogs?

| I couldn't find the answer to my question by searching so sorry if this is a repeat.
I love the look of tiger lilies & other asiatic lilies of various colors but the label says well drained soil. Will they grow as marginals (roots only in the muck) in my bog garden or do they do poorly there??
I was thinking of making a mound of soil so it would have a bit of drainage but very wet feet.
Also does anyone know if we have native lilies here in the US that are available & would do well in bog gardens?
Thanks,
Kate |

| I assume you're referring to Asiatic lilies, and if so, about the only thing that can kill them in our area is very poor drainage/constant excessive moisture. No, not a good choice as marginals. |

| Thanks gardeneer, To bad because they are so pretty. I had read a note on this forum I think that said a lot of things that said well draining did well in bogs so I just wanted to check. |

| ....but "well draining did well in bogs" are opposing statements. Perhaps a misread. Many daylilies do well in bogs, but not all. Asiatic lilies which grow from a bulb will have the bulb rot in too much moisture. Sorry about the sad news. |

| I think it was in the what is your favorite or most unusual bog plant post. Someone said they where suprised how many plants that said they needed drainage on the tags did great in bog gardens. I think they where talking about non-submerged conditions though. I will have to see if any of the daylilies will be OK in my climate. Thanks again |
