Hello, need advice on planting hot, sunny, boggy spot in zone 7a

Hello!
I hope to get some good ideas to plant this boggy spot in a low part of my yard. It's located below a slope which seems to drain water off. Maybe there's a spring, the ground stays moist throughout most of the year. The soil consistancy is like chocolate pudding, wobbly and dark. The very top layer may dry out, but underneath is the bog!
The area gets full, blazing sun all day; and in zone 7a that means it gets HOT!
So far the only plants in this area are: 1 pussy willow (thriving) 1 young apple tree (dead) 1 young quince (thriving - at the very edge of the slope) and grass (invasive). There's plenty of room left, and I'm eager for flowers.
My questions are: what nice flowering plants can I put into this boggy place? I've thought irises - siberian - but can they take the full sun? What about calla lilies, or cannas? I know they probably won't survive the winter, it does freeze a lot here.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Your state has some of the finest native Sarracenias (Pitcher plants)that would surely thrive in your situation. They have great leaf and flower color and are very unique. Here's a link to one of my favorite sources!

Perinnial hibiscus love to have boggy conditions and the more sun and heat, the bigger and better the flowers. Try a Texas Star or a Moy Grande. Red River or Disco Belle.

I put in something called a 'swamp sunflower' in a wet spot by the road. It is awesome. Periennal, the flowers grew to 5 feet the first year and I've seen them around even taller and broader. It blooms in early fall also adding some last minute flowers when others have given out.

The cannas will like the chocolate puddin' :0) but will likely freeze. The callas like moist, but I'm not so sure they'd thrive in the puddin'. Both can take full sun- for the cannas, the more sun the better.However... I would agree w/ Fred that you might want to think about natives.Good luck!
