my basement on one side of my house is wet from rain water, is there any plants that will help soak up water so it wont get into the basement as bad????

sounds like you might need a drainage system. Water getting in the basement can cause other problems because freeze thaw could cause cracks in your walls. I dont believe Plants will stop enough of the moisture.
