You are brave. I have done it. It persisted for a few years and died out. Doesn't seem to develop a seed bank. It is biennial and requires cold strat for germination. Likes moist disturbed areas. I got my seed from a site I know of in Orange county NY.

i got fringed gentian seed from the new england wildflower society, but wasn't successful germinating it via wintersowing. will probably try again, though :0)

You can get plants from Hyla Brook Farm (Easier than seed). Of course, they sell them in their blooming year, so you miss out on the rosette year of their life.
