floating bog log garden

Has anyone tried a floating bog log? The Fens out here are believed to be seeded by a floating log in a mountain lake which is covered with moss and other bog plants. Eventually this turns into a floating mat of vegetation meters thick over centuries. This got me thinking about taking an old dead log and placing it in my koi pond. Then boring holes and refill with peat or saw dust to simulate softer pulp. Next plant with moss and other plants from logs in lakes that I find. What do you think? A real log covered with bog plants in my pond could look very nice.

Sounds like it would work. The Aztecs had floating gardens in the lakes near Mexico City area a 1,000 years ago.
